In this second part we are going to see how the river affects the area’s around it. When you read the first six verses you find out that he was lead to the river. Now we see in the latter part of verse six that he is lead back to the river bank. One question that comes from this is are we willing to be lead by God? If not then what is in our way? Is it arrogance, pride, doubt, fear, or something else. We need to follow Ezekiel’s example and just do it.
After this verses 7-12 give a description of what happens when the river flows. First he sees a great number of trees. Trees are often a symbol of life. Then it talks about it going to the “Sea” and emptying into it. Here it is talking about the Salt Sea or refered to as the Dead Sea. Making the water there fresh. Giving it life. This fresh water attracts living creatures and fish because it brings life wherever it flows. How great of an example of God do we need? Our God is life. He brings it everywhere. The next part mentions fisherman casting their nets into the river. Why? Food could be a reason. Jesus said that he is the living water and bread of life. The loaf of bread we need daily. Are we getting all we need from the river? Verse 11 then says that the salt goes to the swamps and marshes. This salt represents sin. Remember that sin is basically anti-life. After this it says that fruit trees grow along the banks of the river. Bringing fruit evry month. This fruit is for food and the leaves of the tree are for healing.
In Rev.22:1-2 we have another mention of the river. Talking about much of the same thing. So, are we willing to go to and into the river? Pray about it and let God show you the River.
Be blessed, Ken
